BACKGROUND AND PROBLEM

BACKGROUND AND PROBLEM

Despite growing awareness around sustainability, travellers struggle to act due to fragmented tools, limited visibility, and complex decision-making processes. This gap between intent and action prevents meaningful, eco-conscious travel behaviour.

RESEARCH & INSIGHTS

To understand traveller behavior, I explored how users approach sustainability while planning trips. The research revealed a clear gap between intention and action.

Many travellers expressed interest in making eco-conscious decisions, but struggled to find reliable tools that clearly explained environmental impact. Existing resources felt fragmented, time-consuming, and difficult to interpret.

A recurring pattern showed that users rarely go out of their way to research sustainability. Instead, they prefer quick, integrated insights within their existing planning flow.

These findings highlighted a key opportunity: simplify access to sustainability insights and embed them directly into the decision-making process.

Key Takeaways

Three layers working together: intelligent planning, transparent comparison, personal impact tracking.

Simplicity Drives Sustainable Decisions

Travellers don’t avoid sustainable choices because they don’t care -they avoid them because the process feels complex and overwhelming.

By reducing cognitive load and presenting clear, actionable insights, users are more likely to engage.
Designing for simplicity transforms sustainability from a burden into an easy default.

The goal is not more information, but better clarity at the right moment.

Awareness Alone Isn’t Enough - Action Needs Guidance

Many travellers are open to sustainable choices but lack direction on how to act.

Simply surfacing data or tools isn’t effective without contextual guidance.

Users need timely recommendations that fit naturally into their decision flow. Bridging the gap between awareness and action is where real impact happens.
Design must actively guide, not just inform.
